Raising Hope – Making a Difference

Raising Hope was founded by Desiree Thavar, and this is my story…
I have always had a passion for children, seeing their faces light up has to be one of the most rewarding things in the world. I unfortunately have been exposed to the sad reality, that there are millions of children in this world that are suffering and going to sleep every night hungry. I decided at the time that it was going to be impossible to help every child, however I knew that I could have a profound effect on the lives of a few. This was when I made the decision to start dedicating my time and efforts into trying to raise awareness and sponsorships for those children in need. My vision is that one day we diversify to include more organisations and not just focus on orphanages.
Currently we rely on individuals to donate their time and items needed for the special days we plan for the kids. Due to my organisation still being in the process of being registered, I made the decision NOT TO ACCEPT cash.
One of the negative aspects of doing this, is while this brings me much joy, it also saddens me having to leave these precious souls. At the end of an event we go back to our homes and family while we these children go on with their existence. The stories you hear in these homes will bring tears to your eyes and breaks your heart. It makes you thankful for everything you have. We take for granted all we have and doing this keeps you grounded.
I have been fortunate enough to have an amazing team who have been with me every step of the way. These individuals give up their time and energy to make a difference in the lives of these children and I honestly could not have picked a better team.
